1. Indirect or direct capture: Indirect capture may be the reading of a recording (such as a patient vital sign) taken by using a stand-alone apparatus rather than an integral part of the TMS. If the patient was asked to show the taking of the sample over an Internet-based camera and then show the glucometer’s recording to the observer, then it could be seen to be direct.
2. Snap shot or trend: A single photo of a skin lesion is a snapshot, whereas a time series of the same is a trend. Does the remote diagnosis require a single piece of information or data captured over time? Confirmation of a snake bite may require a single shot of the region of envenomation, but the overall spread of the venom could be monitored through a sequence of further filming.

3. how it transfers data to a computer (e.g. data capture card, lead or modem)
4. how the data could be recalled and used (e.g. do you need a proprietary package or not?)
5. Consider and note possible content sources for core TMS guidelines development, within your specific practice and remote arena, covering the following elements:
• ‘Competency’ in managing the technical element of the system
• Clinical accountability for remotely prescribed care of the patient
• Gaining Informed Consent to using TeleMedicine
• Informing patients of their rights and responsibilities during a remote consultation
• Privacy consideration and maintaining confidentiality during and after the session
• Data integrity and network security
• Record keeping and record ownership
