I need your help in Master proposal in the area of collaborative learning in programming in higher education my major is Computer Science and could please provide me with all materials that you have used to write the research proposal and it is important that any such materials are able to be accessed easily and relevant to the contents please mention the page numbers for each source e.g. (Ted,2012,p.28).

Also all the materials should be recent and academics and if you need some sources but you do not have access to them then please let me know and I will find it and upload it .

The proposal requirement which are

The proposal should be a two to five pages overview of your research divided under the following headings

Title and topic

Research questions you plan to investigate in the context of existing research/literature in the area Significance and impact of the research Methodology/research tasks required to undertake the research Any particular needs, if applicable (e.g. resources, facilities, fieldwork or equipment that are necessary for your proposed research program).

A good way to start your proposal is to think about The potential audience.

Who is your academic audience and how might this work affect their understanding of the field? Is there an audience beyond academics, such as practitioners or the general public, who might care about your work? Why should they care?

In most cases it is sufficient to demonstrate that there is academic interest, but identifying the potential broader interest in your findings can be a way to help you find the most relevant and pressing problems.

Unsuccessful proposals tend to suffer from a number of common problems.
The most common is that the researcher is not really asking a genuine research question, but seeking supporting evidence for a preconceived idea. Ask yourself: are you seeking new knowledge or trying to prove something you think you know?

Sometimes, especially in creative practice based research questions do not easily present themselves. Some research is iterative: the researcher must test their assumptions through field work or creative project work before the questions come into focus. In these cases it is important to focus on what your research has to offer others beyond your own personal and professional development.

All the following is what the Supervisor discuss with me in last meeting
1-you need to come up with collaborative activities.

2- you can add survey.
3-Think about interview some student or develop questioners to some student about how they collaborate using the robot assignment or any other programming assignment so think about question you want them to answer and some of the questions will be qualitative and some in form of feedback then do some evaluation and come up with results.
4- think about collaborative activities.
5- think to add some questions to the survey, you can add some question about what you want to investigate. (come up with some questions to ask in terms of collaborative ideas)

The current system

We have created a cloud-based incremental visual constructivist tool to help student practice with problem solving and basic programming tasks.

Some of the simpler tasks are chosen from past exams to help student revise for the forthcoming exams.

More complex problems are structured into incremental tasks thus allowing student to progress in steps (unless student want to take a challenge)

(student may request for answers after completing the survey).

Also note topics such as recursion are not covered in all programming courses.

The questions require the use of loops, arrays, if-statements, methods, argument passing, sorting, recursion, classes etc.

We intend to add more features such as threads, synchronization, events, inheritance etc in the future based on your feedback

The system is also designed to give partial marks where possible.

There are different kind of tasks

First: The student select task from drop down list.
Second: The student type the code then run the code
Third: if student did something wrong the system will tell him.
Fourth: the system will show the output and give mark to the student.
Fifth: if the question says use do loop and the student use for loop the system will dedicate that and give you error message so the system is checking the code and the output.

Case Approach

Scientific Methodology

We use best scientific approach to solve case study as recommended and designed by best professors and experts in the World. The approach followed by our experts are given below:

Defining Problem

The first step in solving any case study analysis is to define its problem carefully. In order to do this step, our experts read the case two three times so as to define problem carefully and accurately. This step acts as a base and help in building the structure in next steps.

Structure Definition

The second step is to define structure to solve the case. Different cases has different requirements and so as the structure. Our experts understand this and follow student;s university guidelines to come out with best structure so that student will receive best mark for the same.

Research and Analysis

This is the most important step which actually defines the strength of any case analysis. In order to provide best case analysis, our experts not only refer case materials but also outside materials if required to come out with best analysis for the case.

Conclusion & Recommendations

A weak conclusion or recommendations spoil the entire case analysis. Our expert know this and always provide good chunks of volume for this part so that instructors will see the effort put by students in arriving at solution so as to provide best mark.

So in addition to these tasks you can come up with collaborative task this incrementally not more complex task so we can create collaborative task and we can say these three methods has to be done and then you need to think how to upload it together as long as we have group working in …….

So at the moment the system does not allow that group making so we need group id so when we submit this problem it has to somehow to put the team together so as we run this code ……

*come up with some collaborative sort of frame work design it and then may be use the robot and set the experiment.the obvious one is two robots one is moving the blocks and the other one is taking it out and put it somewhere else so they need to collaborate as well. Two people can program it separately each one in different third but need to make sure that they take turns so you need to design the experiment for the collaboration but do not need to write the code.

So when student collaborate how can we capture the collaboration things?
So what happen now is that when student submit the answer it shows us how many times they submit to get the compilation right so if he moves only one block it will give him only 2 marks so if we design the individuals task move block, overall control then I can also mark how much you have got it right then effectively you can see this is individually how they perform but when they work as a team they will be able to help each other.

So the question is that do they do better when working individually or when they work in a group?

Possible Research questions

#Is it better if 3 people work together then they will learn better?

#Whether two people collaborative better than five people collaborative may be that is important question group size /personality /gender and come up with suggestion.

#What are the factors should we consider when we form a group?
#What are the considerations and formations of collaborative group for programming exercise?

May be we can ask them after doing collaborative task, maybe we can ask them pre task which they will individually do it and post task which each of them can do it so we can still use the same thing to capture.

So think about experiment, you do not need to think of detailed robots but come up with collaborative exercise for some programming.

If we have common task for the three of them before and after the collaboration so we can see weather by collaborating the student learn something.
Different kind of activities make the learning of different task easier for example robot are very good to learn arrays, loops, methods but for polymorphism you need to come with another activity.

Come up with experiment that you can apply in this context and we might be able to map Your collaboration frame work in assignment and you have questioners as well .

We are looking at collaborative learning so you need to come up with an experiment Where students are collaborative in driving solution to whether it is robots or some other programming solution and as we said one way of doing that is to compare an individual submission to collaborative submission so for example if I said to student I need to write class control method so the student among their self’s can decide who is strong person to do the hard part and the other two write the rest so when you finished just put them all the solution parts up so three methods together and then try to see how quickly you can do it So it is measure the time so if working together you always feel the pressure.

We need to promote collaborative activities and hoping that week student can learn how the good student are working.

The system is already set up and now is tracking the following

1- how many attempt you made?
2- how long you took to answer?
3- what marks did you get when you submit?
So all these data going to come to you so you can collect data and start analysing.

We need to do something to raise the student level and you do not have to write the code for the system but you have to think of the ideas now so what sort of problems the student should be taking to further your research so look up some collaborative work that have been used to programming and may be come with context and little experiment with four research questions what we are trying to understand?

Whether two people collaborative better than five people collaborative may be that is important question group size /personality /gender and come up with suggestion.

What are the factors should we consider when we form a group?
What are the considerations and formations of collaborative group for programming exercise?
Start with this first then think of the experiment because the learning and teaching should drive the experiment not the other way around.

How do we form teams because the individual task capture how each student did so then we can form a team by getting good students to work with week students?
And see the outcome whether it is improving or not?

These are the robot tasks that the supervisor was talking about in the meeting so we need to decide which one to be pre task, the group task and post task and we also can come up with other collaborative tasks we do not have to use these.

Robot Fragment One

Write the code fragment to move the fixed set of blocks of height 2 from the source over bars of height 8 and place them in the target location.

Robot Fragment 2

Write the code fragment to move the fixed set of blocks of varying heights from the source over bars of height 8 and place them in the target location.

Robot Fragment 3

Write the code fragment to move the fixed set of blocks of varying heights from the source over bars of varying heights and place them in the target location.

Robot Fragment 4

Write the code fragment to move the fixed set of blocks of varying heights from the source over bars of varying heights and place them in the target location in the specified order.
Note methods are provided for moving a block from one column to another.

Robot Fragment 5

Write the code fragment to move the set of blocks of varying (randomized) heights from the source over bars of varying (randomized) heights and place them in the target location in the required order (randomized).
Note each time the program is run a different set of values will be generated for bar and block heights and the required order – and your code should be tested with random values. You should use the methods provided to retrieve the bar, block and required heights.
Note methods are also provided for moving a block from one column to another specifying the clearance.

Robot Fragment 6

Write the code fragment to move the set of blocks of varying (user-specified) heights from the source over bars of varying (user specified) heights and place them in the target location in the user specified order.

Note each time the program is run a different set of values can be specified for bar and block heights as well as required heights – and your code should be tested with different user specified values.

You should use the methods provided to retrieve the bar, block and required heights.

Note methods are also provided for moving a block from one column to another specifying the clearance.

What I briefly understand from the meeting is that they already have the system and I need to design three tasks (to put it on the system) which are dividing as the following two tasks which student will do individually which is pre and post task and the third task would be the collaborative task.

So we need to come up with incremental not complex collaborative task. we will give the students the pre task which thy have to do it individually and then we can see how many students have got full mark and how many students got middle mark and how many students have got low mark so we can form a group based on their results that we got from the pre task and after we set a group based on their results and also we should find out other factor that we should consider when we form a group such as time and by that I mean the group members should have time to meet otherwise it won’t be consider group work because we need week student to learn from other students also the personality factor ,gender, group size ,student ability and other factors that we need to consider .Then we can let them work together to solve the collaborative task and then we got their results as well and finally we give the students the post task and let them do it and after we have got their results we can see if the week students have improved by working in a group with good and middle students .
