Wealth and Risk Management

Project Goal

The Wealth and Risk Management course examines the various factors that impact investment risks and returns. It explores the characteristics of financial instruments and the application of modern portfolio theory to enable students to provide financial solutions to meet the investment, retirement, protection, estate and tax planning needs of their clients and determine how these solutions can help deal with both expected and unplanned events. However, the implications of these concepts cannot truly be understood until they are put into practice. Thus, the goal of this project is to develop wealth and risk management strategies for the financial planning needs of individuals.
To conduct this project, you will work as part of a two-member team.

The scenario for your team is that you are the management team of a well-known Private Wealth Management firm handling HNWI portfolios with initial capital of over $1 million. You want to start investing your initial capital and establish a good track record that will draw the attention of potential investors and attract additional clients to your firm.

Your client is a HNWI investor who does not have much knowledge and experience in wealth management, she/he requires your help. Your client is mainly concerned about the following criteria

Returns

• Absolute return: The total dollar increase in the portfolio over the trading period
• Risk-adjusted return: The return on the portfolio taking into account the level of risk assumed by you, as measured by the Sharpe Ratio

As the client feels that investment in equity stocks is the appropriate way to maximize returns and achieve their investment objectives, she/he is keen to invest AED 1 million in stocks listed on the Dubai Financial Market (DFM) and USD 1 million in US Stock Markets through the Virtual Stock Exchange (VSE).
