For your case study report

1. Choose one (1) case question from the ones listed below: Case 1a, Case 1b, Case 2a, Case 2b, Case 2c,
or Case 2d.

2. Use descriptive statistics and graphs to summarize the data (Hint: Refer to Chapter 2 and 3 material).

3. One of the assumptions for ANOVA is normality, each of the treatment datasets must be normally distributed. Is that assumption violated? Support your statement. Note that ANOVA is not very sensitive to minor departures from normality (as long as the data is not extremely skewed).

4. Answer the chosen question at the end of the case (i.e., analyze the data). Use α = .05.

5. Create 95% confidence intervals for each treatment mean 426; refer to the example given on pages 425‐6). Include all the details in the appendix (the formula, all the values you used to do the calculations).

6. What are your conclusions/findings?

7. See Blackboard: “Course Content” >> “Case Study 1” for any other additional instructions and updates.

Format for the case study report

• Please treat this as a formal report (introduction, body, conclusion, appendix), check your spelling and grammar (use full sentences and paragraphs), keep it short and concise (under two pages not including the appendix) but not at the cost of omitting important information and details.
• In the report, make references, as needed, to the items in the appendix (e.g., “… as shown in the Figure

• The appendix, following the report, should consist of the graphs, the ANOVA output, any other output you used, and confidence interval calculation details (show the formulas and all the values you used to obtain the final results). Please name and number each item (use this when making references in the
report).

Defining Problem

The first step in solving any case study analysis is to define its problem carefully. In order to do this step, our experts read the case two three times so as to define problem carefully and accurately. This step acts as a base and help in building the structure in next steps.

Structure Definition

The second step is to define structure to solve the case. Different cases has different requirements and so as the structure. Our experts understand this and follow student;s university guidelines to come out with best structure so that student will receive best mark for the same.

Research and Analysis

This is the most important step which actually defines the strength of any case analysis. In order to provide best case analysis, our experts not only refer case materials but also outside materials if required to come out with best analysis for the case.

Conclusion & Recommendations

A weak conclusion or recommendations spoil the entire case analysis. Our expert know this and always provide good chunks of volume for this part so that instructors will see the effort put by students in arriving at solution so as to provide best mark.

Case study 1. Wentworth Medical Center (*modified case study from our textbook)
As part of a long‐term study of individuals 65 years of age or older, sociologists and physicians at the Wentworth Medical Center in upstate New York investigated the relationship between

In the first part of the study, a sample of 60 individuals, all in reasonably good health, was selected; 20 individuals were residents of Florida, 20 were residents of New York, and 20 were residents of North Carolina. Each of the individuals sampled was given a standardized test to measure depression. Higher test scores indicate higher levels of depression.

A second part of the study considered the relationship between geographic location and depression for individuals 65 years of age or older who had a chronic health condition such as arthritis, hypertension, and/or heart ailment. A sample of 60 individuals with such conditions was identified. Again, 20 were residents of Florida, 20 were residents of New York, and 20 were residents of North Carolina. Each of the individuals sampled was given a standardized test to measure depression. Higher test scores indicate higher levels of depression.

The data collected is in the case1_data.xlsx file on Blackboard.

Questions (Choose one (1) question for analysis)

a. Are there differences between the three groups in the first part of the study with respect to their standardized test scores (measuring depression)?

b. Are there differences between the three groups in the second part of the study with respect to their standardized test scores (measuring depression)?

Case study 2. Comparing Three Methods of Treating Childhood Ear Infections.

Acute otitis media, an infection of the middle ear, is a common childhood illness. There are various ways to treat the problem. To help determine the best way, researchers conducted an experiment. One hundred and eighty (180) children between 10 months and 2 years with recurrent acute otitis media were divided into three equal groups. Group 1 was treated by surgically removing the adenoids (adenoidectomy), the second using the drug sulfafurazole, and the third with a placebo. Each child was tracked for two years, during which time all symptoms and episodes of acute otitis media were recorded.

Column 1: ID number
Column 2: Group number
Column 3: Number of episodes of the illness
Column 4: Number of visits to a physician because of any infection
Column 5: Number of prescriptions
Column 6: Number of days with symptoms of respiratory infection.

All the data (split by question) is in the case2_data.xlsx file on Blackboard.

Questions (Choose one (1) question for analysis)

a. Are there differences between the three groups with respect to the number of episodes?
b. Are there differences between the three groups with respect to the number of physician visits?
