Princess is a 32 yrs. old single African-American woman who lives with her nine years old daughter. She is a Veteran who served two tours of duty in Iraq as a Human Resource Specialist. While serving in Iraq she witnessed and processed many mutilated and dead bodies. She reported that she was exposed to numerous life threatening situations, such as improvised explosive devices (IEDS), pop shots, and direct fire. She is currently suffering from Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) with major depressive symptoms and severe alcohol dependence. Normally an outgoing, fun-loving person, Princess has become increasingly jumpy, irritable and withdrawn since her deployments.She has admitted that her drinking is getting out of control. Currently, Princess is not employed, and she receives 100 percent disability from Veteran Affairs. Princess has been diagnosed with PTSD with major depression and severe alcohol dependence. Princess denied a previous mental health history. She denied a history of suicide attempts and denied a history of self-injurious behaviors. She is currently taking an antidepressant drugs-Zoloft and Effexor. She has refuse treatment for alcoholism.
 
Exposure to violence is a factor that contributes to higher incidences of mental health disorders and substance abuse. The areas I planned to focus on are the psychiatric symptoms (Depression, anxiety, hallucinations, etc.) associated with Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

First, create the practice scenario. In what capacity are you working with Princess, and how long have you been working together? Give a brief introduction to Princess and her presenting concerns.
 
Next, describe the problem area you plan to address with Princess. Be as specific as possible in your description (behaviors, context, frequency, duration, etc.), client’s perspective, your observations, case records, and the perspective of family members. In other words, this section component is a detailed behavioral assessment of a particular problem area of the client. In addition, you should also assess and describe the client’s strengths. What resources (intrapersonal, interpersonal, social, community) are available to Princess that may be of assistance in addressing the described problem?
 
Third, examine possible interventions for this problem area from an evidence-based perspective. This requires that you do a literature search on various appropriate treatments and discuss the empirical evidence supportive of at least two interventions. Is there a particular intervention or treatment modality that is considered most effective or “best practice” for this problem area? Discuss how applicable you think this intervention would be for Princess in particular, and any limitations that might preclude her from benefiting.
 
Finally, conclude with a specific treatment plan, implementing the chosen intervention for the problem area for this client. Be sure and follow the instructions when constructing your treatment plan. It should include: a) goals; b) objectives; and c) specific methods to be used for attaining these goals. Importantly, your objectives and interventions must be written with enough specificity to enable others (for example, co-workers) to be able to implement the interventions and to evaluate their success.
